Featuring the artwork of D. Tom Conboy

Rural Rails Crossing is a collection of my thoughts about the experience of painting rural and railroad scenes. Watercolor is my medium of choice, and my painting style is impressionistic. I am not trying to render a photographic image of the place, but to capture the "mood" of the location.

Bernheimer Bridge

The Katy Trail is a former rail line that has been converted into a biking/hiking trail. It once was used by the Missouri Kansas and Texas Railroad (MKT). The MKT abandoned the line in 1986 and donated the land to the state of Missouri.

Bernheimer Bridge is located along the Katy Trail in Missouri, and it is the subject of one of my paintings. I completed this watercolor in my studio from a photo I had taken while riding along the trail. This section of the trail hugs the Missouri river and is very beautiful and peaceful. When I look at this painting, it takes me back to those times I have ridden this section of the Katy Trail. It is like I am back on my bike taking in the fresh air and the wonderful scenery of this tranquil section of the trail.

I highly recommend biking or hiking the Katy Trail. If you are interested, please visit www.bikekatytrail.com for more information.
