Featuring the artwork of D. Tom Conboy

Rural Rails Crossing is a collection of my thoughts about the experience of painting rural and railroad scenes. Watercolor is my medium of choice, and my painting style is impressionistic. I am not trying to render a photographic image of the place, but to capture the "mood" of the location.

Digging Out The Oil Paints

Title: Missouri River at Washington, MO*
Size: 8 x 10 inches
Medium:
Oil
Original/Print:
Original

It has been several years since I lasted painted in oils, but that all changed on January 13, 2012!

This painting was done from a photo I had taken back in May of 2011. The scene is located along the banks of the Missouri River in the town of Washington, Missouri. This area was settled in 1818 and became the city of Washington in 1839. There are a lot of historic buildings and interesting sites, shops, and restaurants in Washington. It is one of my favorite places to visit. You can learn more about Washington, Missouri at their web site: www.washmo.org

*Prints of this painting can be purchased at Fine Art America.

  1. Hey Tom, This is great. Beautiful painting. I am glad to see you working again in oils in addition to watercolor. You have the best of both painter worlds.

    God Bless You,
    Jimmie

  2. Thanks, Jimmie! I got my start in oils, but quit painting with them due to headaches. I actually like working with oils better than watercolors, but I am really sensitive to solvents. I wanted to try painting with oils again, but was concerned about the headaches returning. I was careful to keep my studio well ventilated and to take frequent breaks. No problems with severe headaches this time.

    God bless,
    Tom
