This watercolor was painted from a photo in my photograph collection. I was out taking train photos along the Illinois Central Railroad back in 2001. I was wanting to get several photos of lC locomotives before they were repainted by the Canadian National Railroad. The Illinois Central Railroad was acquired by the Canadian National Railroad in 1999, and several of their locomotives had already been repainted in CN colors by 2001.
I stopped in the town of Neoga, Illinois and set up my camera. I heard a distant horn and prepared my camera to get a shot of an IC locomotive, but instead I caught a Union Pacific train running up the line. Although I was disappointed with not catching an IC train, I was pleased with the photo. I decided to paint this watercolor painting from the photo I had taken back in 2001. The original painting was completed back in 2006.
